For the 10th consecutive year, the Junior League of Wichita Falls has taken a stand against hunger through its annual Food Fight campaign. The event, held on Saturday at Market Street on Fairway Boulevard, successfully gathered an impressive 13,400 lbs of food for the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank.
Community Comes Together to Fight Hunger
The Food Fight campaign saw various forms of generosity from the community. Many donations came from pre-packed food boxes, while others were spur-of-the-moment contributions, with shoppers purchasing extra groceries and donating them on the spot.
For Mackenzie Burrus, the Junior League’s Community Vice President, every donation—big or small—makes a meaningful impact.
“It means a lot just seeing someone go in and bring out one bag of canned goods,” Burrus said. “They’re putting food on the table for another member of our community. So, it just means a lot to me, and I know it means a lot to the League as well.”
The Impact of the Food Fight Campaign
This year’s 13,400 lbs of donated food will go a long way in supporting individuals and families experiencing food insecurity in the Wichita Falls area. While the Food Fight campaign has ended, the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank continues to accept donations year-round to help those in need.
How You Can Help
Even though the Food Fight campaign is over, there are still ways to contribute:
- Donate non-perishable food directly to the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank.
- Make monetary contributions to help provide meals for local families.
- Volunteer your time at the food bank to support their daily operations.
Every effort, no matter how small, helps fight hunger in the community.
