In a terrifying incident that has shocked a Florida community, a 12-year-old girl is recovering in the hospital after being brutally stabbed and left for dead in a protected wildlife area. The suspect, 35-year-old G. Girard, has been arrested and charged with aggravated battery and aggravated child abuse.
What Happened?
On May 26, 2025, Florida sheriff’s deputies responded to a distress call in one of the state’s oldest wildlife management areas. When they arrived, they discovered a young girl hidden under a brush, bleeding from multiple stab wounds to her face and neck. Despite her injuries, the brave child was able to identify her attacker by name, leading to a quick response from law enforcement.
The Arrest and Confession
Soon after, deputies located Girard’s vehicle, a gold-colored van, and brought her in for questioning. After a brief investigation by the major crimes unit, Girard confessed to stabbing the child and even told detectives where they could find the weapon. She is now being held in jail with a $750,000 bond.
As of now, no motive has been officially provided, and officials have not revealed the relationship between the suspect and the victim. Girard does not currently have an attorney listed in the latest court filings.
A Child’s Strength and Survival
The girl’s survival is being called a miracle. Despite being severely wounded and abandoned in an isolated area, she showed incredible courage by giving police the details they needed to catch her attacker. She is now in stable condition, though doctors say her recovery will involve both physical healing and emotional support.
Sheriff’s Statement
Charlotte County Sheriff B. Prummell shared his shock and sorrow over the crime.
“To attack a child with a knife … I can’t understand it. It is only by God’s grace that she is still with us today,” said Sheriff Prummell. “In my 33-year career, there are only a handful of times that I have been left speechless. This is one of them.”
He praised the victim’s strength and the quick action of deputies and medical teams that helped ensure her survival.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities are still looking into the details of the incident, including whether Girard had any history with the victim. A probable cause affidavit has not yet been released. Investigators continue to collect evidence and piece together what led to this shocking act of violence.
Community Response
The community remains deeply disturbed and heartbroken over the attack. As more people learn about the bravery of the 12-year-old and the cruelty of the assault, there’s a growing call for justice — and for support to help the child recover from her unimaginable trauma.
