Louisiana – In a shocking turn of events, a 62-year-old grandmother, identified as M. Pattum, is facing serious charges after allegedly attempting to strangle her own granddaughter during an altercation over missing drugs.
Pattum is accused of attacking the young girl after accusing her of stealing methamphetamine. The incident has led to multiple drug-related charges, firearm violations, and allegations of domestic violence.
The Disturbing Incident
The incident took place on June 12, 2025, at around 4:30 p.m., when Louisiana police responded to a call about a disturbance at Pattum’s home. A juvenile girl called dispatchers, claiming her grandmother had wrapped her hands around her neck, attempting to strangle her after accusing the child of stealing her drugs.
When police arrived, they began an investigation that revealed a much darker situation in the household. The authorities secured a search warrant for Pattum’s residence based on the assault allegations and reports of drug use. Inside, law enforcement discovered a disturbing array of illegal drugs and firearms.
Drugs and Firearms Seized
A police statement revealed that the house contained various illegal substances, including methamphetamine, crack cocaine, marijuana, and other narcotics in pill form. These substances were categorized under Schedule I, II, and IV controlled substances. Along with the drugs, three firearms were recovered, one of which had been reported stolen.
During a search of Pattum, officers discovered a small metal container containing suspected crack cocaine, which she openly admitted to using.
The situation escalated further when, while being transported to the police department, Pattum allegedly tried to hide more drugs. Authorities claim she attempted to discard a container of crack cocaine by placing it behind the seat of the police vehicle.
The Growing List of Charges
As investigators pieced together the evidence, Pattum’s charges quickly grew. She now faces the following:
Possession of Schedule I narcotics
Four counts of possession of Schedule II narcotics
Four counts of possession of Schedule IV narcotics
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Two counts of possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance
Obstruction of justice
While authorities also acknowledged the domestic violence incident involving her granddaughter, charges specifically related to the alleged strangulation are still under investigation. The juvenile’s condition following the attack has not been disclosed, and her identity remains protected due to her age.
Community Shock and Legal Proceedings
Pattum was booked and is being held on a $20,000 bond. The investigation remains active, and officials have not ruled out the possibility of more charges. The community has expressed shock not only over the violent act against a child but also over the sheer volume of drugs and weapons found in the home.
Impact on the Juvenile
Social services are expected to become involved to ensure the juvenile’s safety and provide her with the appropriate support in the aftermath of this disturbing event. Pattum remains in custody, and her case is expected to proceed through the court system in the coming weeks.
Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding Pattum or the incident to come forward and contact the local authorities.
