In a disturbing case from Brazil, a woman is accused of disguising herself to deliver poisoned Easter chocolates to her ex-husband’s new partner. The tragic result was the death of a young boy and serious illness for two others, including the woman’s romantic rival.
According to reports from Mail Online and The Standard, the incident took place in Imperatriz, a city in northern Brazil, and has shocked the nation with its cruel and calculated nature.
What Happened?
The woman accused is Jordélia Pereira Barbosa, who allegedly dressed in a disguise and bought Easter egg chocolates from a local shop. She then sent them through a motorbike courier to her ex-husband’s current partner, Mirian Lira.
Along with the chocolates was a note that read:
“With love, to Mirian Lira. Happy Easter.”
Mirian Lira received the gift and later shared the chocolates with her children. Soon after eating the chocolates, her seven-year-old son fell seriously ill. He was rushed to Imperatriz City Hospital, where he sadly died on Thursday, April 17.
Two Others Still in Critical Condition
After eating the same chocolates, both Mirian Lira and her 13-year-old daughter also became unwell. They are now in critical condition at the same hospital, according to The Standard.
This horrifying event has sparked outrage and concern, especially since the children were innocent victims.
What the Investigation Revealed
Security cameras reportedly captured footage of Barbosa buying the Easter chocolates, which has become key evidence in the case.
Maurício Martins, a local security official, stated:
“The evidence suggests that the crime was driven by jealousy and revenge. The suspect’s ex-husband is currently in a relationship with the woman who was poisoned, along with her two children.”
He added that there were several strong indications pointing towards Barbosa as the main suspect, and that police are working to strengthen the case before presenting it in court.
What Barbosa Said After Her Arrest
Following her arrest, Jordélia Barbosa reportedly admitted to buying the chocolate eggs, but she denied poisoning them. The police are continuing their investigation, focusing on tracing the source of the poison and confirming how it was added to the chocolates.
