Many young people love to visit Mexico during Spring Break for a fun vacation. But U.S. Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna, who represents Florida, has strongly warned parents not to send their children to Mexico for holidays. She says the country is not safe because of increasing violence caused by dangerous drug cartels.
Despite having Mexican roots herself, Luna says she wouldn’t visit Mexico unless it’s for official government work. Her comments have sparked attention, especially because she spoke out on national television.
Violence in Mexico: A Serious Concern
Speaking on the show Bolling! on Real America’s Voice, Luna agreed with former U.S. President Donald Trump’s comment that Mexico’s new president, Claudia Sheinbaum, is too scared to fight the drug cartels. She explained that over the past few years, Mexico has seen some of the bloodiest crimes in its history.
She warned that even in popular tourist spots, there have been reports of murders. These are places where college students usually go to party. Luna said, “If you have kids, please don’t pay for them to go to Mexico during Spring Break. It could be very dangerous.”
Comparing Mexico with El Salvador
Congresswoman Luna also compared Mexico to El Salvador. She praised El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele for turning his country around. Just a few years ago, El Salvador was known as one of the most dangerous places in the world. But now, she says, it’s become one of the safest countries in the Western Hemisphere because of Bukele’s strong anti-crime policies.
According to Luna, this is the kind of leadership Mexico needs to fight the cartels and make the country safer for locals and tourists.
A Personal Connection to Mexico
Although Luna has Mexican ancestry, she said Mexico today is not the same country her family once knew. She remembered how her grandfather used to take the family to Mexico during the summer holidays when her father was young. Back then, it was peaceful, and people could travel without fear. Now, she believes the situation has changed completely.
A Strong Message to American Parents
In her final remarks, Luna made her message very clear: “Unless you have to go to Mexico for official work, stay away. Don’t let your kids go there until the Mexican government deals seriously with the cartel problem.”
She believes parents should think twice before paying for holiday trips to places that are not safe. According to her, until Mexico gets the crime under control, it’s not worth the risk.
