A tragic incident in Eastland, Texas, has left one man dead after he was attacked by a swarm of bees. What started as a routine activity quickly turned into a life-threatening emergency when bees from a hidden hive attacked the man while he was mowing near an old building. This story is a sad reminder of how nature can sometimes become dangerous if disturbed accidentally.
What Happened in Eastland, Texas?
The incident took place in the 700 block of North Lamar Street, located in Eastland, which is about an hour away from Abilene. The man, whose name has not been released, was reportedly mowing a lawn near an abandoned structure. Unknown to him, the building had a large honey bee hive inside.
When he came close to the structure while mowing, the bees likely felt threatened and attacked him in large numbers.
How Did the Police Find Him?
After the attack, it seems the man tried to escape by running to his vehicle. But things got worse—police later responded to a call about a crash. When they arrived at the scene, they saw that the driver was being swarmed by bees even while inside or near the car.
Police quickly pulled him from the area and moved him into a police vehicle to protect him from further stings. Unfortunately, the man became unresponsive during the rescue and was taken to Eastland Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Were the Bees Removed?
Yes. According to the local news report, a professional beekeeper was called to the scene. The beekeeper safely located and removed the hive from the abandoned building to prevent further danger to others in the area.
Are Honey Bees Usually Dangerous?
In general, honey bees are not aggressive. They do not go out of their way to sting humans. However, they will attack in large numbers if they feel their hive is under threat. This is especially true if someone accidentally disturbs a large hive, like in this case.
