Massive Fire at Abandoned Nursing Home in Temple Threatens Gas Line

A large fire broke out just after 8 PM last night at an abandoned nursing home on Industrial Boulevard in Temple, Texas. The blaze spread quickly, damaging nearby areas and threatening a nearby gas line.

Firefighters from Multiple Texas Communities Respond

The Temple Fire & Rescue team arrived promptly and realized the fire’s size was too large for them to handle alone. Assistance came from neighboring departments in Salado, Belton, Killeen, and Troy, as well as additional support from Temple’s EMS and police.

No Injuries, But Building Is a Total Loss

Fortunately, the nursing home had been vacant for some time, so no injuries or casualties were reported. The building, which measured over 23,000 square feet on more than an acre and a half, was completely destroyed by the fire.

Gas Line Fire Under Control but Being Monitored

According to KCEN, Atmos Energy stayed on-site to manage the burning gas line and ensure it didn’t cause further danger. While the gas line continued to burn, it was closely monitored as roads reopened following the massive emergency response.

Investigation Underway

The Temple Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause of the fire. They are asking anyone with useful information to contact them directly.

This fire comes just one day after two other fires broke out during recent storms in Temple. Officials hope the investigation will confirm that no illegal activity was involved.
