An undocumented immigrant named Ramon Morales-Reyes has been arrested after threatening to kill President Donald Trump. Morales-Reyes, 54, allegedly crossed into the U.S. illegally from Mexico and sent a handwritten letter to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) declaring his plan to assassinate the president at one of Trump’s rallies.
Threatening Letter to ICE
The letter, written in blue ink, said:
“We are tired of this president messing with us Mexicans — we have done more for this country than you white people — you have been deporting my family and I think it is time Donald J. Trump get what he has coming to him. I will self deport myself back to Mexico but not before I use my 30 yard 6 [gun] to shoot your precious president in his head — I will see him at one of his big rallies.”
The letter arrived on May 22, leading to Morales-Reyes’ arrest. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released details of the threat on Wednesday.
Morales-Reyes’ Criminal History
DHS reported that Morales-Reyes has entered the U.S. illegally at least nine times between 1998 and 2005. He also has a criminal record including felony hit and run, property damage, and domestic abuse-related disorderly conduct.
He will remain in custody at Dodge County Jail in Juneau, Wisconsin, while awaiting deportation.
DHS and Officials Respond
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem praised ICE officers for arresting Morales-Reyes. She also referenced previous threats against President Trump, including an assassination attempt in July 2024, when a bullet grazed Trump’s ear and the gunman was killed by the Secret Service.
Noem criticized some public figures and media members for harsh rhetoric, warning they should be careful to avoid encouraging violence.
Background on Related Comments
Noem mentioned a controversial social media post by former FBI Director James Comey, which some interpreted as a call for violence against Trump. Comey has denied this and deleted the post, saying he does not support violence.
