Lufkin Police have arrested Antonio Jerome Mitchell, 46, in connection with multiple payday loan establishment robberies in the area. Officers caught Mitchell in the middle of a robbery and later identified him as the prime suspect in at least three other similar crimes.
Thanks to swift police action, authorities believe they may have solved a total of four robberies linked to the same suspect.
Morning of Alarms and Action in Lufkin
First Robbery Report – Western Finance
At 10:40 AM, Lufkin Police Department (LPD) officers responded to a robbery at Western Finance on South Chestnut. Employees described a man demanding cash while implying that he was armed, though no weapon was shown.
Second Robbery – Covington Credit
While officers were still investigating the first robbery, another robbery call came in from Covington Credit on Frank Ave. Witnesses provided a detailed description of the suspect and his silver Ford Explorer, which proved crucial in the investigation.
Suspect Located and Arrested
During a quick search of the area, officers found the suspect’s vehicle parked at an apartment complex on South John Redditt Drive. Soon after, they located Mitchell inside a nearby apartment and took him into custody.
Investigation Continues – Possible Link to More Robberies
Following his arrest, Mitchell confessed to one robbery and is now the primary suspect in two additional cases in the area. Authorities are investigating whether he may be connected to other similar crimes.
The Lufkin Police Department commended the officers involved for their quick response, which likely prevented further crimes.
