Dallas Man Sentenced to Life for Brutal 2022 Shreveport Murder

A Dallas man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after being sentenced for the 2022 killing of a Shreveport resident at a local gas station.

Details of the Crime

In 2022, Noel Deon Garner, then 30 years old, entered the Shell Station on West 70th Street. Inside, 25-year-old Jermond Houston was checking out at the counter. Garner walked up to him, reached into Houston’s right pocket, and pulled out a 9mm handgun with an extended magazine.

Realizing what was happening, Houston tried to flee the store—but Garner opened fire. Houston was struck in the back and fell. Garner then continued firing, ultimately shooting Houston 26 times.

During the incident, Garner accidentally shot himself in the foot. He fled the scene and drove away.

Conviction and Sentencing

Garner was convicted in April and on Thursday was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.

The ruling brings a measure of justice in a case that shocked the community due to its violence and brazenness.
