For many individuals with disabilities that limit their ability to work, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) provides much-needed financial support. The Social Security Administration (SSA) manages these regular payments, ensuring they are distributed according to a well-defined schedule.
As we approach the third monthly SSDI payment for June 2025, it is important to understand when you will receive your funds and how the payment process works.
SSDI Payment Schedule for June 2025
The SSDI payment schedule operates under strict protocols, with two rounds of deposits already made earlier in June. There are two more rounds remaining to complete the distribution for the month.
The timing of your payment primarily depends on your birthdate, with certain adjustments made if specific holidays or non-working days fall on the scheduled payment date.
Who Receives SSDI Payments and When?
The SSA determines eligibility for SSDI based on an individual’s ability to work due to a disability. Those who began collecting SSDI before May 1997 follow one schedule, while others have their payments based on their birthdate.
For those who started receiving SSDI before May 1997, payments are made on the third business day of each month. If that date falls on a non-working day, the SSA adjusts the payment date. For example, in August 2025, the third business day will fall on a Sunday, resulting in an adjustment.
For Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients, the payment is made on the third day of each month as well. If they receive both SSDI and SSI, they will receive their SSDI payment on the same day.
For individuals who started receiving SSDI after May 1997, payment dates are based on their birthdate. The dates for these beneficiaries are as follows:
Birthdays between the 1st and 10th: Payment will be made on the second Wednesday of the month (June 11, 2025).
Birthdays between the 11th and 20th: Payment will be made on the third Wednesday (June 18, 2025).
Birthdays between the 21st and 31st: Payment will be made on the fourth Wednesday (June 25, 2025).
These dates are consistent each month, with the exception of federal holidays, which may trigger adjustments. The SSA announces these adjustments at the start of each year, detailing all payment dates.
How to Calculate Your SSDI Payment
The amount you receive from SSDI depends on your earnings history and the number of years you worked. In 2025, the maximum SSDI monthly benefit is $4,018. However, the average SSDI payment is lower, at approximately $1,580 per month, reflecting a 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA).
The SSA uses a formula based on your Average Indexed Monthly Earnings (AIME) to determine your benefit amount. Here’s how it works:
-90% of the first $1,226 of your AIME is applied.
-32% of amounts between $1,226 and $7,391 is used.
-15% of amounts over $7,391 is included in the final calculation.
While these maximums are provided, it’s important to remember that your specific SSDI amount depends on your earnings history and contributions to the Social Security system over your working life. Thus, you might receive a lower amount than the maximum based on your situation.
