Tragic Motorcycle Accident Claims Life on Shreveport’s North Side

Shreveport, LA – A motorcyclist was killed in a single-vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon on the north side of Shreveport. Officers responded to the scene at Martin Luther King Drive and Russell Road just after 1 p.m., where they found the wreck in the roadway.

The victim, later identified as Philip Ernest Miller, was unconscious with a head injury. He was attended to by a daycare worker from a nearby facility and a Shreveport City Marshal, who performed CPR in an attempt to save him. Miller was rushed to Ochsner LSU Health with life-threatening injuries.

Details of the Accident

According to crash investigators, Miller was heading east on MLK Drive when he ran off the roadway while attempting to navigate a curve. Investigators suspect speed may have contributed to the fatal crash. Witnesses reported that Miller laid the motorcycle down while trying to make the curve.

Though Miller was wearing a full-face helmet, it was not properly secured with the chin straps, which led to serious head injuries during the crash.

Victim’s Death Confirmed

The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed that Miller did not survive the accident and was pronounced dead at the hospital during the overnight hours.

This marks the 23rd fatal crash in Caddo Parish this year, a disturbing statistic, as the parish has the highest number of traffic fatalities in Louisiana.

Shreveport Police Department’s Statement

The Shreveport Police Department expressed their deepest condolences to Miller’s family and reminded all motorists of the critical importance of wearing and properly securing safety gear. This message serves as a tragic reminder of the risks involved when safety precautions are not followed.
