We’ve all experienced some questionable driving in Texas—speed limits sometimes seem optional, and the lack of turn signals can drive anyone crazy. But, is the driving really that bad in the Lone Star State, or is it just a few bad apples? Well, the latest data is in, and it may surprise you.
What Is Driving Like in Texas?
If you’ve ever been behind the wheel in Texas, you’ve probably witnessed drivers flying past you without a care in the world. Sometimes, you might even wonder why the person weaving between lanes isn’t being pulled over for speeding or not using their blinker—something that can really get under your skin, right?
But, when we look at the data for accidents in the state, the picture starts to clear up. Accidents can happen anywhere, and Texas is no exception. However, is the driving really as bad as it seems?
How Is Texas Ranked for Driving Overall?
To answer that, data has been released by Allstate to rank all 50 states based on factors such as:
Average years between collisions
Relative collision likelihood (compared to the national average)
Additionally, the ranking takes into account how cities in the state have changed over a ten-year period. So, where did Texas land?
Texas Takes the Top Spot for Safe Driving
In a surprising twist, Texas was ranked #1 in the nation for safe driving. Yes, you read that right. Despite the occasional reckless driver, the state’s overall driving record earned it the top spot. Texas had 23 cities make the list, with four of those cities making it into the top 20!
So, it turns out that while Texas does have its fair share of bad drivers, the state as a whole is actually doing pretty well in terms of safe driving.
Keeping the Rank High
While this ranking is great news for Texas, it’s important to continue driving safely to maintain this high status. So, Texas drivers, make sure to keep those hands at ten and two, stay alert, and keep your foot on the brake when necessary. We’ve got a good thing going—let’s not mess it up!
Driving in Texas might have its wild moments, but the state is officially the safest when it comes to road safety. Keep it up, Texas!
