Mississippi – In a tragic case of a teenager driven by anger, L. Williams, a 19-year-old, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the murder of his mother’s 49-year-old boyfriend, J. Pierce.
The crime occurred in May 2022, when Williams, then 15 years old, shot Pierce twice in the chest during a botched robbery attempt fueled by personal anger.
The Crime and Its Motive
Williams admitted in court that the murder was the result of intimate messages he discovered on his mother’s phone. These graphic texts, exchanged between his mother and Pierce, enraged Williams, leading him to feel personally betrayed. The teen not only sought to confront Pierce but also planned to rob him.
According to court records, Williams enlisted the help of his cousin, C. Hodge (22), and his uncle, B. Fields (27), to execute the robbery and confrontation. On May 16, 2022, the group approached Pierce outside his apartment. Witnesses later reported that Williams and Hodge demanded Pierce’s wallet.
When Pierce responded by saying, “We don’t have anything,” Williams pulled out a 9mm handgun and shot Pierce twice in the chest. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Pierce died shortly after from his injuries.
Investigation and Arrest
Following the incident, Williams, Hodge, and Fields all turned themselves in to authorities. Initially, Williams and Hodge were charged with capital murder, while Fields was charged with being an accessory after the fact. Williams was arrested on May 18, 2022, just weeks before his 16th birthday.
Williams eventually pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, acknowledging both his role in the shooting and the premeditated nature of the crime.
As a result of the guilty plea, the capital murder charge was reduced, and Williams was sentenced to 40 years in prison, with 35 years to be served behind bars and five years under post-release supervision.

The other two individuals involved, Hodge and Fields, also face legal repercussions. Hodge’s case will proceed under separate legal proceedings, while Fields has been charged as an accessory to the crime.
