Colorado Springs is in for a warmer weekend with a chance of thunderstorms rolling in by Saturday afternoon. While the triple-digit heat isn’t expected just yet, eastern Colorado will experience warm temperatures, and storm chances are on the rise.
Saturday Weather: Warm with Isolated Thunderstorms
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, Saturday, June 28, will bring drier and warmer conditions to southern and central Colorado. Colorado Springs will reach a high of 89°F, and Pueblo will hit 87°F.
As the day progresses, cloud cover will increase, and there will be a 20% chance of afternoon thunderstorms developing over the higher terrains, such as the Palmer Divide and Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
Thunderstorms may bring gusty winds up to 45 mph, especially near Raton Mesa and Fremont County. These storms could include lightning, brief downpours, and small hail. Burn scar regions, including the Decker Fire zone near Chaffee County, should be particularly cautious due to sudden runoff risks through Sunday and beyond.
Travel Precautions
Travelers on I-25 and Highway 50 should remain alert for reduced visibility and slick roads if storms develop during the afternoon or early evening hours. It’s important to stay updated on the forecast to adjust your plans accordingly.
