A Florida teenager is behind bars after making serious threats against a McDonald’s restaurant in Lakewood. Authorities say 18-year-old Dayton Schaffer called the restaurant three times, threatening to shoot the place up because his chicken McNuggets were missing from his meal.
The Incident at McDonald’s
The incident took place late on a Monday night when Schaffer, frustrated over his order being wrong, began calling the McDonald’s around 11:30 p.m.
He reportedly made threats to “shoot this s**t up” during the calls, which prompted the manager to contact the authorities. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office was notified, and Schaffer was quickly arrested.
After the first call, the manager of the restaurant apologized to Schaffer and offered to fix the order if he returned. However, the threats continued. Schaffer called twice more, further alarming the staff and leading to police involvement.
Authorities Respond and Make the Arrest
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd shared the news of Schaffer’s arrest with humor, using a pun-filled video on the department’s Facebook page. “This guy acted like a McNut,” Judd joked, referencing Schaffer’s bizarre behavior over a missing food item.
The sheriff continued with more puns, saying Schaffer used his “McPhone” to make the “McThreat,” making the arrest a “slow McPitch.”
Detectives managed to track down Schaffer, who admitted to making the calls but claimed the threats were just a joke. He was arrested and now faces serious charges.
The Charges and Consequences
Schaffer is facing charges of making a false report about the use of a firearm against people, which is considered a second-degree felony. Additionally, he faces charges for misusing a two-way communication device, which is a third-degree felony.
According to Florida law, such charges carry heavy penalties, and Schaffer could face significant legal consequences for his actions.
Sheriff Judd made it clear that while Schaffer may have thought his threats were a joke, they were taken seriously. The sheriff’s office emphasized the seriousness of making threats, especially those involving firearms, even if they are intended as pranks.
A Lesson on the Consequences of Threats
This incident serves as a reminder of how important it is to take threats seriously, no matter how minor or seemingly humorous they may seem.
Threatening violence, whether online or in person, can lead to severe consequences. Schaffer’s outburst over a McDonald’s mistake has now led to criminal charges, and he will have to face the consequences of his actions.
