According to Lisa Roffman, founder of Homeless Lives Matter, Dever was hit by a vehicle shortly after leaving the Homeless Lives Shelter around noon.

Community Support & Recovery
Dever was hospitalized at United Regional for a week before requesting to be released on March 12.
He expressed gratitude for the visits and for those who brought him Sour Patch Kids, which helped lift his spirits.
Roffman emphasized the need for compassion, stating:
“Sometimes, people look at the homeless like they are nobody, but they are somebody. If they’ve had a past or a history or unfortunate, that’s between them and God. I love these people as if they’re my own family.”
