Towns County, Georgia — A mystery is unfolding on Bell Mountain in Towns County, where the bodies of twin brothers from Lawrenceville were discovered nearly 90 miles away.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is initially treating the case as a murder-suicide, but the victims’ families disagree, claiming that explanation does not make sense.
A hiker discovered Qaadir and Naazir Lewis, both 19, shot to death Saturday morning on the summit of Bell Mountain, near the North Carolina border.
The discovery shocked their family, who had assumed the twins were in Boston visiting friends at the time.
“We want answers, we want to know exactly what happened to the twins,” said their aunt, Samira Brawner.
According to family members, the twins were inseparable and had no previous conflicts.
“They are extremely protective of each other. “They love each other,” their uncle Rahim Brawner stated. “They’re basically inseparable. I couldn’t imagine them hurting each other because I had never seen them fight before.
According to the family, the brothers planned to fly to Boston at 7 a.m. last Friday but did not arrive. Only 24 hours later, they were discovered dead in an area the family claimed they had never visited before.
According to the family, the brothers’ plane tickets were found in their wallets on the mountain.
“How did they get out in the mountains? “They don’t hike out there; they’ve never been out there,” Brawner explained. “They know nothing about Hiawassee, Georgia. “They had never heard of Bell Mountain, so how did they end up right there?”
The GBI stated that their preliminary findings indicate a murder-suicide, but the family strongly disagrees.
“We knew right away that wasn’t true,” Brawner explained.
Their aunt, Yasmine Brawner, added, “They had an enormous support system. We know them. They would not do anything like this. To say they did something to each other? No. Something occurred in those mountains, and we seek answers.”
The GBI confirmed that autopsies had been completed, but the agency is still awaiting additional forensic test results and investigative work before making a final determination on the cause of death.
