Legacy Leopards' Leah Sanchez is This Week's Athlete of the Week

Legacy high school student-athlete Leah Sanchez competed for the Leopards at the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association (THSWPA) state meet.

She competed in the unequipped 242-pound weight class and finished third in state. Sanchez was unequipped, which means he did not benefit from any equipment such as knee sleeves, special suits, or wraps, allowing him to demonstrate true power.

She competed in all six classifications across the state at the THSWPA meet.

Leah set a new state record with a 185-pound bench press, totaling 850 pounds. That consisted of the bench, squat, and deadlift, and earned her a bronze medal.

On top of her powerlifting accomplishments this week, Leah also helped Legacy defeat Canadian in softball. She won 3-2 with a complete game, three-hitter and ten strikeouts. Offensively, she doubled and homered for the seventh time this season.

Leah will be featured on a digital billboard on Lawrence Road in Wichita Falls this week as part of her recognition as our athlete of the week.

She is also eligible for a scholarship from United Regional Orthopedics at the 2025 Nexstar Sports Awards, which take place in July.
