Kohl’s, one of the well-known department store chains in the United States, is facing tough times. The company recently reported a major drop in sales, which has led to the decision to close several of its stores across the country — including one location in Texas.
Even though the brand has a large presence in the Lone Star State, with 90 stores in total, only one Kohl’s store in Texas will shut down permanently this year.
How Bad Were Kohl’s Sales in 2024?
According to the Austin American-Statesman, Kohl’s had a disappointing performance in 2024, especially during the fourth quarter. The numbers reveal:
- A 9.4% drop in sales for Q4
- A 7.2% overall sales loss for the entire year
Due to these poor results, the company decided to close stores that were labeled as underperforming. Out of 1,147 Kohl’s stores nationwide, 27 are scheduled to close, with Texas losing just one.
Which Kohl’s Store in Texas Is Closing?
The only Texas location that will close is in North Dallas. The specific store is located at:
18224 Preston Road, North Dallas, TX
This Kohl’s will officially close its doors on March 29, 2025.
Compared to other states, Texas has been mostly spared. For example, California is set to lose 10 Kohl’s stores, the highest number of closures in the country. On top of that, Kohl’s is also shutting down its e-commerce fulfillment center in San Bernardino, California, which has been operating since 2010.
Right now, the company has not revealed a detailed recovery plan. With a sharp fall in sales in 2024, Kohl’s is expected to make changes in strategy — but those details have not been made public yet. As consumer shopping habits continue to shift, Kohl’s may need to rework its in-store and online experiences to stay competitive.
