Texas Shaken: The Region Is Still Being Rocked by Earthquakes

Texas Shaken The Region Is Still Being Rocked by Earthquakes

An earthquake shook the Midland area this afternoon, about 15 miles southwest of Ackerly, the third this year in Texas. Have they almost become a regular occurrence?

Am I the only one who can’t recall ever experiencing an earthquake in Texas as a child? I was telling a friend about today’s earthquake, and they had no idea we’d ever had one here before. He must avoid social media and the news. He was stunned.

The first time I truly felt it in Lubbock was several months ago. It was a minor aftershock from a quake in the Permian Basin region.

I was sitting on my couch when I felt a small rumble. I assumed my phone was lost in the cushions and set to vibrate. I didn’t think much of it, got up, and went for a bubble bath. The same rumble occurred again, and as I watched ripples cut through the bath water, I realized it was an earthquake.

I live in a skyscraper, so it was a little alarming, but I’m brushing it off like everyone else.

Studies show a significant increase in earthquakes in our area since 2023. Do you think we’ll reach a point where they become much more serious? I hope not, but I won’t hold my breath.
