Many people in the United States rely on monthly Social Security payments to manage their living expenses. However, not everyone receives their payment on the same day.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) has a set schedule based on when you started receiving benefits and your date of birth. So, it’s important to know which group you belong to so you can plan your monthly finances better.
On April 3, 2025, the SSA will send out a new round of payments, but only a specific group of Americans will receive their money on this date.
Who Will Receive the April 3rd Social Security Check?
To receive your Social Security payment on April 3rd, you must have started receiving retirement benefits before May 1997. This group is the only one eligible to receive the April 3rd payment.
If you applied for Social Security after May 1997, you will receive your check later in the month based on your birth date. Still, everyone with an approved benefit will get their payment in April, just on different dates.
Other Social Security Payment Dates in April 2025
If you’re not part of the group receiving payment on April 3rd, you will get your money on April 9, 16, or 23, depending on your birthday and when you started receiving benefits. Here’s how it works:
- April 9: Payment for Group 2 (Those who started receiving benefits after May 1997 and were born between the 1st and 10th of any month)
- April 16: Payment for Group 3 (Born between the 11th and 20th)
- April 23: Payment for Group 4 (Born between the 21st and 31st)
To know your group, you just need to check when your benefits began and your date of birth.
How Will You Receive the Payment?
The date mentioned by the SSA is when they send the payment, but the actual arrival of the money in your bank account depends on how you receive the payment:
- If you have Direct Deposit activated, the money may arrive on the same day.
- If you use a paper check, it may take a few extra days to reach you.
To get your money faster, make sure Direct Deposit is enabled for your Social Security account.
