Multiple Lives Are Lost in a Tragic Shreveport Fire

SHREVEPORT, LA – A devastating house fire early Sunday morning has left three people dead and one person in critical condition in north Shreveport. The fire broke out around 6:30 a.m. on Kemp Lane, located in the MLK Community.

The Shreveport Fire Department arrived at the scene within five minutes of the emergency call. When firefighters reached the home, flames were already pouring out from the front of the one-story house. Due to the intensity of the fire, over 30 firefighters were called in to battle the blaze.

Victims Found Inside the Home

Firefighters quickly began searching the house and found four victims inside, all believed to be residents. Life-saving measures were attempted at the scene, and all four were rushed to nearby hospitals.

Sadly, three victims were pronounced dead, while the fourth remains in critical condition at last report. Their identities and official causes of death are still pending confirmation from the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office.

Cause of the Fire Under Investigation

Investigators believe the fire started in a front room of the house. However, the exact cause is still being investigated by both the Shreveport Fire Department and the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office.

No Smoke Alarms Were Found in the Home

A tragic detail revealed by officials is that no smoke alarms were installed in the home. This lack of early warning likely played a role in the tragedy. According to fire safety experts, smoke alarms give residents crucial extra time—often less than 2 minutes—to escape a burning house.

Fire Chief Clarence Reese spoke on the heartbreaking loss:
“Our hearts and our prayers go out to this family and also to this community. Any fire death affects not only one community, but it affects the city of Shreveport.”

Free Smoke Alarm Installation Available

The Shreveport Fire Department is urging all residents to check their smoke alarms regularly. They recommend testing them once a month and replacing batteries if needed. If you or someone you know does not have a smoke alarm, the Fire Department offers free installation.
