An American Airlines flight that was supposed to land safely in Texas had to make an emergency landing in Denver, Colorado after a serious mid-air issue. Now, nearly a month later, a passenger from Texas is suing the airline, saying the incident could have been avoided if proper steps were taken. Here’s everything we know so far about what happened on that flight and the legal case that has followed.
When Did the Emergency Landing Happen?
On March 13, 2025, an American Airlines flight that was flying from Colorado to Texas experienced major engine problems. According to a report from Denver7, the issue began at around 5:15 PM when the flight crew noticed unusual engine vibrations.
Due to this issue, the plane was diverted and made an emergency landing at Denver International Airport. After the plane landed safely and was moving toward a gate, the situation turned worse—the engine suddenly caught fire.
Were There Any Injuries?
There were 178 people on board that flight—172 passengers and 6 crew members. The airline’s team acted quickly, and all passengers were safely evacuated. However, 12 people were injured and had to be taken to a medical facility. Luckily, their injuries were considered minor, but the experience was clearly frightening for everyone involved.
Why Is a Passenger Suing American Airlines?
One of the passengers, Jerry Adamson, has now filed a lawsuit against American Airlines, claiming misconduct and negligence. According to the lawsuit shared by Denver7, Mr. Adamson believes the airline could have prevented the emergency before the plane even took off.
The legal documents state:
“As a direct and proximate result of the negligent conduct of Defendants, Mr. Adamson has suffered, and will continue to suffer, injuries, damages and losses, including but not limited to past and future medical expenses, pain and suffering, mental anguish and emotional distress.”
What Are the Main Allegations?
According to the lawsuit, the crew members did not follow proper emergency procedures. Specific claims include:
- Failing to follow the emergency checklist
- Not calling for emergency help in time
- Poorly managing the evacuation process
- Not keeping passengers safe from the burning engine
The lawsuit suggests that the situation could have been handled in a more orderly and safe way, reducing risk to the passengers.
