Organ Donors From Wichita Falls Are Honored as Heroes for Life

Thanks to a heartfelt partnership between United Regional Health Care System and the Southwest Transplant Alliance (STA), a special group of people from Wichita Falls and surrounding areas are now remembered as “Heroes for Life.”

These are organ donors — individuals who, even in death, gave the ultimate gift: the gift of life.

Honoring the Gift of Life

A moving ceremony was held on Friday afternoon at One Life Church in downtown Wichita Falls to recognize these selfless heroes. Families, friends, and recipients gathered to honor the lives of organ donors who helped save countless others.

Each donor was symbolized with a colorful sand pouring ceremony, where sands were layered into a glass to represent the unique person behind each donation.

A Partnership That Makes Life Possible

Aubrie Butler with the Southwest Transplant Alliance said this touching event was only possible because of the strong collaboration between STA and United Regional.

“We’re very grateful for the partnership that we have with them to make organ donation possible,” Butler shared. “And to the courageous families who say ‘yes’ to organ donation — they are true heroes, as are the people still waiting for that lifesaving gift.”

Lives Saved, Families Touched

One of those lives saved is Randy Bronaugh, who received a donor’s organ four years ago. That gift gave him something he’ll never forget — time with his grandchildren.

“It’s a love that you just can’t explain,” Bronaugh said. “I’m so thankful to my donor, my donor’s family, and my Lord Jesus for giving me the chance to know what that feels like.”

The emotion was felt deeply by families of donors as well.

Remembering Stephanie: A Legacy That Lives On

Karen Robertson was there to honor her daughter, Stephanie, who tragically passed away in 2003 after a car accident. Stephanie’s organs were donated — a decision that went on to save a record number of lives.

Robertson says she’s even met some of the people whose lives were saved by her daughter’s generosity.

“Even though I was heartbroken to lose Stephanie, seeing these people alive today… It’s the best gift anyone can give or receive,” Robertson said.

Heroes Never Forgotten

The Heroes for Life ceremony is not just a tribute, but a powerful reminder that life doesn’t end with loss — it can continue through giving.

Thanks to these donors and their families, countless lives were restored. Their names and stories will be remembered, not just by those they saved, but by the entire community that honors their selfless act.
