The Social Security Administration (SSA) has confirmed the April 2025 payment schedule, which includes important updates for over 70 million beneficiaries across the United States. These include retirees, people with disabilities, and those receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
Along with the regular payment schedule, April also brings changes due to the Social Security Fairness Act, offering higher benefits for many Americans—especially public service retirees.
Social Security Payment Dates for April 2025
Here’s the complete April 2025 Social Security payment calendar, based on birth date and benefit type:
Payments Already Made:
- April 1: SSI (Supplemental Security Income) recipients
- April 3: Retirees who started receiving benefits before May 1997
- April 9: Beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th of any month
Payments Still to Come:
- April 16: Birthdays between the 11th and 20th of any month
- April 23: Birthdays between the 21st and 31st of any month
Important Note:
If a payment date falls on a weekend or holiday, it is moved to the last business day before the due date. For example, if April 1 falls on a Saturday, SSI is paid on March 28 (Friday) instead.

How the New Social Security Law Affects Your Payment
In January 2025, the Social Security Fairness Act came into effect. This law removed two long-criticized rules:
These rules reduced Social Security payments for people who worked in jobs not covered by Social Security — such as teachers, firefighters, police officers, and some federal employees.
Key Benefits of the New Law:
- Retroactive Payments: Between February and March 2025, the SSA paid a total of $7.5 billion to 1.1 million eligible retirees, averaging $6,710 per person.
- Monthly Increases (starting April 2025):
- Retirees: +$360 per month
- Spouses: +$700 per month
- Widows/Widowers: +$1,190 per month
When Will You See the Increase?
The SSA advises not to contact them about increased payments until after receiving your April check, as adjustments are being applied gradually, especially due to staff reductions under the Trump administration and DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) led by Elon Musk.
What to Do If Your Payment Is Delayed
If your payment hasn’t arrived, SSA recommends:
- Wait three business days before contacting them
- Check your Direct Deposit account or mailbox
- Keep personal info (bank details, address) updated with SSA
