WICHITA FALLS, Texas – A murder investigation into the May 6, 2024, shooting death of 28-year-old Trevenian Mitchell has led to the unraveling of a widespread criminal network, resulting in multiple arrests related to organized retail theft, illegal firearm possession, and perjury—though no one has yet been charged directly with Mitchell’s murder.
From Accidental Shooting to Homicide Investigation
Initially believed to be accidental, Mitchell’s death from a gunshot wound to the head is now officially being treated as a homicide, according to the Wichita Falls Police Department (WFPD).
While the investigation remains active, and no homicide charges have been filed in this specific case, police say it has triggered a wider probe that exposed deeper criminal activity connected to at least one high-profile suspect.
Elmondo Gildon at the Center of the Web
Elmondo Leusay Gildon, 44, was arrested on April 9, 2025, in Wichita Falls on five counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, and later charged with murder in Dallas County related to a separate incident on May 19, 2024.
Though he has not been charged in Mitchell’s death, WFPD confirmed that his arrest is part of the broader investigation that stemmed from Mitchell’s killing.
Gildon is currently being held at the Wichita County Jail with a total bond of $2.25 million. He is also being held without bail for a parole violation.
Discovery of a Retail Theft Operation
During the investigation, WFPD detectives examined Gildon’s cell phone, uncovering text messages that revealed an ongoing retail theft operation involving several individuals.
A series of messages between August 2023 and January 2025 connected Gildon to a contact listed as “Lowes Lady”—alleged to be Patricia Vasquez, a Lowe’s employee. Police believe Vasquez stole merchandise from the hardware store and sold it to Gildon at half price.
Search Warrants Lead to More Arrests
Searches carried out at homes in Wichita Falls turned up stolen merchandise and illegal firearms:
- A storage container on Oriole Street, believed to be the residence of Maricia Rousha Blair, held Lowe’s merchandise and two firearms. Blair, a convicted felon, was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm and also charged with stalking in an unrelated case.
- At another property on Tulsa Street, investigators found nearly $2,000 in suspected stolen items. This home belonged to Jessica Florence Brooks-Jones, who police say was in both a romantic and business relationship with Gildon.
Arrests and Charges Filed
Patricia Vasquez was arrested on April 10 and charged with organized retail theft. Her bail was set at $25,000, and she was released the next day.
Brooks-Jones was arrested on April 12 for organized criminal activity involving retail theft. She was released on $15,000 bail the following day.
Blair was arrested on April 14 and released the next day on $115,000 bail.
Additionally, three women have been charged with perjury for false testimony given in March related to the local murder investigation. All three have since been released on bail.
Investigation Still Ongoing
WFPD emphasized that this is an active and evolving investigation, and while no homicide charges have yet been filed in the Mitchell case, detectives are pursuing multiple leads. The department confirmed that seven arrests have been made as a result of the case, but none are directly linked to the murder as of now.
