Texas Teacher Kara Hernandez, 31, Was Arrested for Having a Relationship With a Middle School Student

A former teacher from Texas has been arrested after being accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a middle school student, including alleged sexual contact. The teacher, identified as Kara Hernandez, is now facing multiple criminal charges.

The case has shocked parents and the local community, especially as the accused was previously employed at Ronald Thornton Middle School, located in the Houston area.

How the Allegations Came to Light

According to reports from Fox 26 Houston, the accusations surfaced after a former student reported Hernandez to school officials. The report prompted an internal investigation by the Fort Bend Independent School District (FBISD).

Soon after, Hernandez resigned from her job in September 2024, while the investigation was still ongoing.

When Did the Incident Allegedly Occur?

As per official court documents obtained by Click 2 Houston, the alleged inappropriate relationship is believed to have occurred sometime after April 1, 2022—around the time Hernandez was employed by the school.

A grand jury indictment states that Hernandez knowingly engaged in sexual intercourse with a student who was currently enrolled at the same institution.

Charges Filed Against Kara Hernandez

Hernandez, now 31 years old, was arrested on February 14, 2025, and has been charged with:

  • Improper relationship between an educator and student
  • Indecency with a child, including sexual contact

These are serious criminal charges in Texas and can lead to long-term prison sentences and permanent inclusion in the sex offender registry if proven in court.

Hernandez’s Role at the School

According to several parents on social media who claim to have children in the district, Hernandez was an orchestra instructor at Ronald Thornton Middle School. However, this detail has not yet been independently confirmed by officials or the school district.

School District’s Response

In a statement, Fort Bend ISD confirmed that Hernandez resigned in September 2024, and the school district had been investigating the claims at the time of her departure.

The district did not release any further details, citing the ongoing legal process and the sensitive nature of the case involving a minor.
