A tragic and unexpected accident in Toledo, Ohio, has left one man dead and another seriously injured. The incident happened on the night of Thursday, April 17, as two men were driving home from a Bible study session.
According to WTVG 13 Action News, a tree and power lines suddenly fell onto their car while they were waiting at a traffic light on Secor Road.
One Killed, Another Critically Injured
The Toledo Fire and Rescue Department confirmed that 35-year-old Richard Miller died at the scene. He was sitting in the passenger seat of the vehicle. The driver, identified as Pastor Andrew Edward, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital.
The two had just dropped off another church member earlier that evening and were on their way to Miller’s home when the accident occurred.
Pastor Edwards in Critical but Stable Condition
Northwest Baptist Church, where Pastor Edwards serves, posted on Facebook about the accident and shared updates on his condition. The church wrote that the tree fell directly onto the car while the pair was stopped at a red light.
Pastor Edwards is currently being treated in critical care, but doctors say he is stable and responsive, with movement in all limbs.
Injuries and Recovery Update
The church’s update stated that Pastor Edwards has:
- A fractured sternum (chest bone)
- A broken clavicle (collarbone)
- A damaged vertebra in his back
- A minor brain bleed, which doctors are carefully monitoring
On Saturday, April 19, the church shared a photo of Pastor Edwards lying in a hospital bed, wearing a neck brace, head bandages, and having one arm in a sling.
“As you can see… pastor is resting well. The Lord is certainly giving him strength,” the church wrote.
Funeral Plans for Richard Miller
The church also confirmed that a funeral service for Richard Miller will be held at Northwest Baptist Church on Saturday, April 26.
Miller’s death has left his church community and loved ones in deep sorrow, with many calling him a kind and faithful friend who will be missed dearly.
