A domestic disturbance in Livingston, Texas turned deadly on the evening of Sunday, April 20, leading to the death of a man and the hospitalization of his wife. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has launched a full investigation into the incident, which occurred in the Southland Plantation subdivision, located a few miles southeast of Livingston.
According to officials, what began as a verbal disagreement between a husband and wife escalated into a violent altercation that ended in gunfire.
What Happened in Livingston?
At around 8 p.m., deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, they found an injured woman who had visible signs of physical assault.
Inside the home, officers also discovered a man who had been shot multiple times in the upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities later confirmed the man was the husband of the injured woman.
How Did the Situation Escalate?
According to the Sheriff’s report, the couple got into a verbal argument that turned into a physical fight. During the struggle, the woman reportedly got hold of a small-caliber firearm and fired several rounds, fatally shooting her husband.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital by emergency medical services. After receiving treatment and evaluation, she was later released.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Process
The case is now being thoroughly investigated by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with the Texas Rangers and the Polk County District Attorney’s Office.
The Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1 carried out an inquest at the scene and ordered an autopsy to be performed by the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Once the investigation is complete, all findings will be presented to a Grand Jury, which will decide whether criminal charges will be filed in connection to the case.
