Lewisville, Texas witnessed a tragic and terrifying incident early this morning that has left the community in shock. Denton County Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell, a long-serving public servant and former mayor, was stabbed by her own grandson during a violent attack at her home. Her husband, Fred Mitchell, was also attacked and sadly lost his life in the incident.

Police were called to the scene just before 4 a.m. on April 22, 2025, after a report of an attack in progress at the couple’s home. First responders arrived quickly, only to find a horrifying scene unfolding inside.

What Happened in Lewisville?

According to reports, officers arrived to the sound of screaming from inside the residence. Upon entering, they found Bobbie and Fred Mitchell with multiple stab wounds. Both were rushed to the hospital. Sadly, Fred Mitchell was pronounced dead shortly after 5 a.m., while Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell remains in stable condition.

The suspect was still at the scene when police arrived. Officers quickly apprehended the couple’s grandson, 23-year-old Mitchell Blake Reinacher, who now faces serious criminal charges.

Who Is the Suspect?

Mitchell Blake Reinacher, the grandson of the Mitchells, was taken into custody on the spot. He has since been charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, as confirmed by court records and statements from law enforcement.

No motive has been officially released yet, and the investigation is ongoing.

Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell is known throughout Denton County and beyond for her decades of public service. She currently represents Precinct 3 and has been a committed leader in the community for over 30 years.

Before serving as a commissioner, she made history as the first Black female mayor of Lewisville, breaking barriers and inspiring many with her dedication and leadership.

Following the attack, her family expressed deep gratitude that she survived the incident, while also mourning the heartbreaking loss of Fred Mitchell — a beloved husband, father, and community figure.
