Crime Stoppers in Wichita Falls Warns the Public About a Scam

Wichita Falls, Texas – Residents are being warned about a new scam targeting people in the area. According to Wichita Falls Area Crime Stoppers, scammers are calling locals and falsely claiming that they have a warrant for their arrest — and demanding payment via gift cards to settle the issue.

Authorities are urging the public to be alert and avoid falling for this dangerous and illegal scam.

What Is the Scam?

In this scam, the caller pretends to be from law enforcement and tells the victim that they have an active arrest warrant. They then pressure the person to pay using gift cards, often demanding the numbers on the back of the card over the phone.

This is a major red flag — no real police department, sheriff’s office, or court will ever ask for gift cards as a form of payment.

What Should You Do If You Get a Call?

If you receive a phone call like this:

  • Hang up immediately.
  • Do not share any personal or payment information.
  • Contact the Wichita Falls Police Department at 940-761-7792 to report the call.
