Man Claims He Accidentally Shot His Girlfriend While Cleaning His Gun While Their Baby Was Inside the House After She Died From a Close-Range Wound to the Upper Body

Michigan – A 21-year-old man from Michigan has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly shooting and killing his 23-year-old girlfriend at their shared home. The victim, RacheI, was found dead from a gunshot wound to the neck. The suspect, identified as MichaeI, was arrested on the spot and is being held without bond in county jail.

What Happened?

On the day of the incident, around 4 p.m., the suspect called 911 and claimed that he had accidentally shot himself and his girlfriend while cleaning his gun. However, when sheriff’s deputies arrived, they found the young woman dead at the scene. The fatal wound was caused by a gunshot fired at extremely close range, which immediately raised suspicions.

The man had also suffered a non-life-threatening injury, which authorities believe was caused by the same bullet that killed his girlfriend.

Infant Was Present But Unharmed

At the time of the incident, the couple’s 6-month-old baby was also in the home. Thankfully, the child was unharmed and is now in safe custody. The tragic loss of the mother has left family members and the community in mourning.

Prosecutors and Investigators: Evidence Points to Homicide

County Prosecutor McDonIld described the case as a domestic violence tragedy, highlighting the devastating impact on the victim’s child and loved ones.

“We have lost a young mother to senseless violence,” said McDonIld. “This case reminds us how quickly domestic situations can turn fatal.”

Sheriff MichaeI praised the investigation team, stating that their work disproved the initial claim that the shooting was accidental.

Murder and Firearm Charges Filed

The suspect now faces serious charges, including:

  • First-degree murder
  • Felony firearm possession

As of now, the suspect’s next court appearance has not been scheduled, but the investigation remains active as more evidence is being collected.
