A woman from Canton, Ohio, is in jail after allegedly repeatedly slamming an 11-year-old girl’s head against a metal slide last Friday.
According to Canton police, she then told the girl’s mother that she wished the preteen would die.
It’s unclear why Destany Scott, 20, was hanging out at a children’s playground. According to the Canton Repository, Scott told police that the 11-year-old slapped her face first.
According to the arrest report, Scott “repeatedly slammed (her daughter’s) head off the metal portion of a slide,” according to the little girl’s mother, Paige Dishong.
Police said they arrived at Stark-Wayne Schrader Park to find two adult women fighting. Scott was charged with both assault and disorderly conduct. According to the arrest report, she told Dishong several times that she hoped the 11-year-old died.
Police claimed that cellphone video provided by Dishong supported the charges.
“There should definitely be a lot more done about this than a misdemeanor or assault and disorderly conduct,” Dishong told Cleveland’s WOIO television station on Monday.
“It’s ridiculous,” she replied. “Destany weighs 270 pounds… My daughter weighs 110 pounds. “She could have killed her.”
Dishong faces charges for allegedly running at Scott while she was handcuffed. Dishong will be arraigned on charges of disorderly conduct and obstructing official business on May 2.
Her daughter told WOIO that Scott “ran up behind me and she, like, grabbed me by my hair and threw me up against the ground.”
Scott’s charges were upgraded Tuesday during her arraignment. She pleaded not guilty to the new charges of felonious assault, aggravated assault, resisting arrest, obstructing official business, and disorderly conduct.
The judge set her bond at $95,000, and she will return to court on April 28 for a pretrial hearing.
