Everyone knows that in Texas, everything is bigger — and that even includes how much we love our beer!
From social gatherings to holiday celebrations, beer is part of life for many Texans. But a new study shows just how much Texans are actually drinking — and the numbers are pretty wild!
Let’s take a closer look at Texas’ drinking habits and why so many people enjoy a good drink, especially during the winter months.
Texas and Beer: A Perfect Match
It’s no secret that Texas loves beer. According to the Texas Department of Agriculture, the Lone Star State is home to over 360 craft breweries and produces more than one billion barrels of beer every year.
Beer is a big part of celebrations, football games, cookouts, and even simple get-togethers. It’s just part of the culture here. So, it’s not surprising that Texans consume a huge amount of alcohol every year — but the actual numbers might still shock you!
The Insane Amount of Alcohol Texans Consumed
A study by MyBioSource looked at the drinking habits of Texans during the winter months, and the results were eye-opening.
The study found that Texans drank an incredible 761,689,602 alcoholic drinks over the winter season!
That’s a massive number — but when you think about Texas’ large population and the easy access to alcohol (even home delivery these days), it starts to make a little more sense.
Texans love to enjoy a drink during holidays, parties, or just a relaxing evening at home.
Why Texans Are Drinking So Much
You might think the high number of drinks would be because of stress — after all, we’ve had elections, rising prices, and many challenges lately. And while stress was part of it, it wasn’t the main reason.
The study found that the number one reason Texans drank was socializing. About half of the people surveyed said they drank mainly to enjoy time with family and friends.
This makes perfect sense because winter includes big social events like Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and many family gatherings. Sharing a drink during these moments is just part of the fun.
What Texans Are Drinking the Most
When it comes to favorite drinks, wine took the top spot during the winter months. This isn’t too surprising, considering Texas also has over 400 wineries across the state.
Beer came in a close second, and vodka and whiskey were tied for third place.
So whether it’s a glass of wine at a holiday dinner or a beer at a backyard party, Texans sure know how to enjoy a good drink!
