Thanks to heavy rain over the weekend, the combined water levels at Lake Arrowhead and Lake Kickapoo have seen a big jump. For a city that closely watches its water supply, this is welcome news ā even if restrictions still remain.
How Much Did the Lake Levels Increase?
On Monday, April 28, 2025, the combined lake levels for Lake Arrowhead and Lake Kickapoo reached 75.2 percent.
This marks a 5.7 percent increase compared to the previous Monday. The rise is significant and has given a bit of hope to Wichita Falls residents who are used to worrying about water shortages.
According to Chris Horgen, Public Information Officer for Wichita Falls, the last time the lakes were above 70 percent was back in December 2024. And the last time they were above 75 percent was even longer ago ā in June 2024.
What About Water Restrictions?
Even though the lakes are fuller, Wichita Falls water customers are still under Stage 1 Drought Watch restrictions.
This means residents must continue to follow rules about when they can water their lawns and other water-saving measures. The city has not yet announced when or if the restrictions will be lifted.
Officials will likely keep monitoring the lake levels and rainfall patterns before making any changes to the drought plan.
