A powerful line of storms hit Texoma on Tuesday evening, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and tornado activity. The storms caused widespread damage, including flooded streets, downed trees, and power outages.
Storms Cause Flooding and Tornado Damage
A long-track supercell storm system moved through Knox County and Baylor County, dropping at least one tornado. Storm chasers reported snapped power poles in the affected areas, showing the strength of the winds.
In addition, the torrential rain quickly flooded streets and drainage areas, making it difficult for people to move around safely.
In Seymour, trees were knocked over by the strong winds, and several streets were flooded. Earlier in the day, the City of Wichita Falls warned residents to avoid certain intersections because there was a risk of them flooding.
Power Outages in Texoma
As the storm moved through, Oncor, the electric utility company, reported that around 700 homes were without power across Texoma.
The majority of these outages, around 400 homes, were concentrated near Thornberry. Oncor expected most power outages to be resolved Tuesday night, but outages near Electra were expected to last until Wednesday morning.
