A piece of Wichita Falls history is under threat tonight as firefighters work to contain a structure fire at the Berry Brown House, one of the city’s oldest remaining homes. The fire broke out near Faith Mission on the evening of Saturday, March 29, 2025.
Emergency Crews Responded Quickly
The Wichita Falls Fire Department received the emergency call around 6:08 p.m. Crews rushed to the scene at 1400 Travis Street, where they found the historic home in flames. Thick smoke could be seen rising across the city from the Big Blue tower camera, a well-known local vantage point.
A Historic Landmark at Risk
According to Preservation Texas, the Berry Brown House was built in 1892 and is one of the oldest standing structures in Wichita Falls. It holds the status of a local historic landmark and has been officially listed as endangered due to its age and condition.
