After Twenty Years as the Coach at His Alma Mater, an Iowa Park Native Resigns

After a lifetime with the Iowa Park Hawks, Michael Swenson is stepping down from his role as head football coach and athletic director to take on a new position as assistant athletic director at Weatherford High School.

Swenson will now work alongside former Iowa Park football coach Aubrey Sims in an administrative role, marking a major transition in his career.

Swenson’s Legacy at Iowa Park

Swenson’s journey with Iowa Park athletics began long before he became head coach.

  • Graduated from Iowa Park High School in 1998
  • Began his coaching career in 2005
  • Served as Iowa Park’s head baseball coach for 15 years
  • Won 303 baseball games with just 92 losses

On the football field, Swenson steadily climbed the coaching ranks:

  • Started as an assistant coach
  • Promoted to defensive coordinator
  • Hired as head football coach in 2021

During his four seasons leading the Hawks, Swenson posted a 16-27 record, making the playoffs each year.
