Benefits From Social Security for May and June of 2025 You Should Be Aware of the Date Changes

The Social Security Administration (SSA) is continuing its regular payments for retirement, disability, and SSI benefits during May and June 2025. This includes payments to nearly 70 million people across the United States.

These payments are not only for retirees but also for people receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). The payment dates are decided based on your birthdate and when your benefits started, especially whether it was before or after May 1997.

May 2025: Social Security Payment Schedule

Here’s a simple breakdown of who has already received their benefits this May:

  • May 1: SSI recipients (regular monthly payment)
  • May 2: Early payment for people who started getting Social Security before May 1997, or those receiving both SSI and retirement benefits, as well as people living abroad (moved from May 3 because it was a Saturday)
  • May 14: For those born between the 1st and 10th and who started receiving benefits after May 1997

Still to Come in May 2025

  • May 21: For those born between the 11th and 20th (post-May 1997 beneficiaries only)
  • May 28: For people born between the 21st and 31st, also post-May 1997 recipients
  • May 31 (SSI Surprise): An advance payment for June’s SSI (since June 1 falls on a Sunday)

This means some SSI recipients will receive two payments in May—one on May 1 and one on May 31—but no separate payment in June. This is not a bonus, just a schedule adjustment.

  • June 18: For those born between the 11th and 20th — this date is earlier due to Juneteenth (June 19)
  • June 25: For those born between the 21st and 31st

This pattern of payments based on birthdays and start dates is used every month to keep things organised.
