Wichita Falls, Texas – Authorities have confirmed the identity of a woman who was found dead inside a home that caught fire in the early morning hours of March 26, 2025.
According to Lt. Jody Ashlock, Assistant Fire Marshal with the Wichita Falls Fire Department (WFFD), firefighters were dispatched to a home located on the 1200 block of 36th Street shortly before 4 a.m. after reports of a structure fire.
Firefighters Responded Quickly to Early Morning Blaze
When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they saw smoke coming from the house. Firefighters forced their way inside through the locked front door and made their way into one of the bedrooms. They managed to bring the fire under control within 10 minutes.
However, while searching the house, they made a tragic discovery.
Victim Identified as Crystal Spears
Inside the home, authorities found a deceased woman, later identified as Crystal Spears, 36 years old, and a resident of Wichita Falls. The identity was confirmed by Sgt. Brett Keith from the Wichita Falls Police Department.
Investigation Still Ongoing
Officials have not yet shared what may have caused the fire or how long it had been burning before it was reported. Sgt. Keith stated that the case is still under investigation, and further details will be released as they become available.
At this time, no foul play has been confirmed, and it is not yet known if the fire was accidental or suspicious in nature.
