Bravos

FC Juarez will be coming off a loss to arguably one of, if not the most popular team in Mexican soccer on Saturday night.

The Bravos suffered their fourth loss of the season, falling 1-0 to Atletico San Luis. Bravos dominated the match and were the better team for the majority of it. San Luis scored the game’s only goal three minutes into the second half when no one picked up Oscar Macias to defend him.

Macias received the ball just outside the small goal box, slipped his shot between defender Moises Mosquera’s legs, and found the back of the net. Bravos had numerous chances to score, but the ball simply did not go in.

The Chivas arrive in the Borderland in poor form, having played archrival Club America in seven days. In that time, they won the first match 1-0 in CONCACAF Champions Cup play, drew scoreless in the second in Liga BBVA MX play on Saturday night, and were humiliated 4-0 in Champions Cup play again on Wednesday night.

The Borderland’s major league team currently leads Guadalajara in the standings table. The Bravos are in eighth place, with 17 points from five wins, two draws, and four losses. Chivas are two places back in tenth place, with 15 points from four wins, three draws, and four losses.

If Juarez wins on Saturday, the Bravos will set a season record for most points scored (20). Taking on a historical powerhouse like Chivas would make it even more special.

The game will be broadcast on Fox Deportes, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. MST. The match has sold out.

Locomotive FC

El Paso Locomotive FC will host Phoenix Rising for their second consecutive home game to begin the 2025 season on Saturday evening at Southwest University Park. Both will be looking for their first victory of the season.

Last Saturday, the Locos drew 2-2 with defending USL Championship Champions Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in their season opener. Meanwhile, the Rising suffered a 1-0 loss to San Antonio FC in the Texas Hill Country.

El Paso looked formidable in their season opener. They improved over the course of 90 minutes, coming back from behind twice. The visiting Switchbacks scored within the first 90 seconds of the match.

Locomotive’s forward Amando Moreno scored the equalizer in the 43rd minute, just before the halftime whistle. Colorado Springs regained the lead in the 74th minute. Andy Cabrera came off the bench to be the hero of the night for the 915, scoring the equalizer in stoppage time (92nd minute).

The theme of the post-match conference, which was echoed by everyone who spoke to the media, was Locomotive’s mental toughness in tying the score twice. Moreno best summed up the team’s new mindset heading into this season, saying, “Last year, this is a match we would have lost.”

Saturday’s match will also begin at 7 p.m. MST and will be streamed on ESPN+ and the CW. Tickets to this match are still available.

Bravas

Even though the MountainStar Sports Group soccer team plays Club America at home on Sunday, the Bravas will wrap up their weekend schedule. The Bravas are currently attempting to overcome what could be a midseason slump, having lost three matches in a row, scoring only two goals and allowing ten.

The Bravas returned to winning ways last Sunday, defeating Atlas 1-0 at home. The Bravas tied Xolos de Tijuana 2-2 on Thursday night on the road. Juarez failed to maintain the lead twice, with the equalizer coming only one minute after the Bravas’ second goal.

Their match against Club America on Sunday will undoubtedly be the most difficult of the season for Bravas, as they will be up against the team currently leading the standings.

The Mexico City team has ten wins, one draw, and one loss this season. They’ve scored 47 goals in 12 games and only allowed seven. To say the least, it’s a formidable offensive force that Bravas will have to contend with.

This game is also set to begin at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on Fox Deportes.
