Carrie Underwood Calls This the 'Worst' Part of 'American Idol'

It appears that being a judge on American Idol is not all it’s cracked up to be.

After all, you must say no to some of the hopefuls who are pursuing their dreams. Carrie Underwood, the new judge, describes this as the “worst” part of her job.

During Sunday night’s (March 16) episode, the country veteran live tweeted to share her thoughts on sending people home.

“Saying ‘no’ is the worsty worst worstest,” Underwood confesses on X, holding a crying emoji.

Of course, Underwood has experience as an Idol contestant, having competed in and won Season 4. Although she wasn’t told no, she was given a ticket to Hollywood during her audition and went on to become one of the biggest stars in entertainment, but everyone understands how painful rejection can be.

After revealing her feelings about sending contestants home, fans have praised the “Denim & Rhinestones” singer for her grace and kindness.

“You do it with such kindness,” one person remarks.

Another agreed with the way she delivers bad news to hopefuls: “What matters is, as you said, it’s just a no today.”

“Aw you’re doing a great job,” someone else says, while another writes, “Oh yes, that would be hard for me.”

She even received praise from the Idol’s social media page: “You did it with such grace!”

Has Anyone Auditioned on American Idol with a Carrie Underwood Song?

One of the most risky things a contestant can do on a reality singing competition show is audition with one of the judge’s songs. However, this has not deterred some singers from trying it.

On this season of Idol, a 23-year-old Texas native named Landy Champlin chose a song from Underwood’s catalog, singing “Good Girl” in the hopes of winning a ticket to Hollywood. Champlin also mentioned that the country veteran is one of her musical influences.

The “Ghost Story” singer confessed that having contestants sing her songs makes her nervous.

“It’s like, ‘Please, be good! “But also, ‘Please be you,'” Underwood admits.

Finally, Champlin performed well enough to advance to the next round of the competition.

American Idol airs Sunday nights at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
