Chris Young Just Did Something Onstage He's Never Done Before, And It Didn't Go As Planned [Exclusive]

Country star Chris Young is trying something new in his long career. On Friday, April 4, he is releasing a brand-new song titled “’Till The Last One Dies” — but before dropping the track officially, he gave fans a special treat by playing it live for an audience. And it didn’t go exactly as planned!

This is the first time in over 20 years of performing that Young has played a full unreleased track live before it hit music platforms.

Why Chris Young Usually Waits to Play New Songs

In an interview on Taste of Country Nights, Young was asked if he often tests his new music on stage before it’s released. He laughed and said, “No, no, no.”

Usually, he prefers fans to hear the final studio version first — the one he and his team spend hours perfecting in the studio.

“I want people to hear the version that we worked on the most,” he explained. “It’s the best way to experience the song for the first time.”

What Happened During the Live Preview?

Even though this was a unique moment for Chris Young and his fans, something funny happened during the performance.

Young had planned to play the studio recording of “’Till The Last One Dies” for the audience — not perform it live. But he had already taught the song to his band for future shows.

While playing the track, he noticed something strange. His steel guitar player, Terry, was playing along — live!

Young recalled, “I could hear him in my in-ear monitors, and I kept looking back at him, wondering why he was playing.”

He figured maybe Terry was just practicing. But later that night, they cleared things up.

The Funny Misunderstanding

It turns out Terry didn’t realize that Chris was only playing a recording. He thought the whole band was performing live — so he joined in without missing a note.

“He never looked up. He was just looking down at his steel and playing,” Young laughed. “He thought we were all playing live. I was like, ‘No, Terry, but good job — you sounded great!’”

Chris Young Is Also Starting a New Chapter

Along with the new song, Chris Young is also moving forward with a fresh start. He recently left Sony Music Nashville after a long time and is now working with a new record label. In the same radio interview, he talked about how exciting it is to begin this next chapter.

Now label mates with Kelsea Ballerini, Young is focused on releasing new music and doing things a little differently — starting with the live sneak peek of his upcoming single.
