For many retired Americans, Social Security payments are the main source of monthly income, making it very important to know exactly when these payments will arrive. Thankfully, the Social Security Administration (SSA) follows a fixed payment schedule every month. This helps retirees plan their budgets more easily.
April 2025 Social Security Payment Dates
In April 2025, Social Security checks will be sent out on four different dates, depending on when you started receiving benefits and your birthdate. Here’s the full breakdown:
April 3 – Early Beneficiaries
If you started receiving your Social Security before May 1997, your payment will be sent on April 3.
April 9 – Birthdays Between 1st–10th
If you started receiving benefits after May 1997 and your birthday falls between the 1st and 10th of any month, your check will arrive on April 9.
April 16 – Birthdays Between 11th–20th
If your birthday falls between the 11th and 20th, and you began receiving benefits after May 1997, you’ll get paid on April 16.
April 23 – Birthdays Between 21st–31st
If your birthday is between the 21st and 31st of any month and you started benefits after May 1997, you will receive your payment on April 23.
Note: These dates refer to when the SSA sends out the payments. If you use Direct Deposit, you’ll receive your money on the exact date. If you rely on mailed checks, there may be a slight delay depending on your postal service.
Extra Social Security Payment on April 1
Some people may also receive an extra payment on April 1 — this is for those who qualify for SSI (Supplemental Security Income).
To qualify for SSI, you must:
- Be 65 years or older or have a disability
- Have low income and limited financial resources
This SSI check is in addition to your regular Social Security payment, and it’s fully compatible — meaning you can receive both payments in the same month if you qualify.
The maximum amount for the SSI payment in April 2025 is $967, but the actual amount will depend on your monthly income and living situation.
