While the idea may sound like a scene from a horror movie, researchers looked at real data like military presence, hunting store availability, and population density to decide which states would hold up best if the dead started walking.
Why Louisiana Stands a Chance in a Zombie World
The study was carried out by entertainment experts at CanadaCasino.co, who compared all 50 states to find out who would be the most prepared in case of a zombie disaster. While Louisiana didn’t come out on top, it did make the top 10, beating out most of the country.
One of Louisiana’s biggest advantages is its population density. According to the study, Louisiana has 107 people per square mile, which gave the state a 9.27 out of 10 score just for this factor alone. That’s because in zombie survival, fewer people often means fewer zombies to deal with.
Rural Areas Are Safer Than the Cities
Even though the state as a whole scored well, not every part of Louisiana is equally safe. Cities like New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Shreveport, Lafayette, and Monroe have more people, which could mean more zombies in a real outbreak. But outside these urban centers, many areas are rural with fewer people, which is exactly what gives Louisiana the edge.
In rural Louisiana, there are more open spaces, fewer crowds, and easier access to hunting and survival supplies, which could be key when facing the undead.
How the Rankings Were Calculated
The study measured each state on things like:
- Number of hunting supply stores
- Number of military bases
- Population per square mile
- General readiness for survival
Based on these categories, Louisiana received an overall score of 4.08 out of 10. That might sound low, but here’s the catch: even the 10th best state scored just a little over 4. That shows how unprepared many parts of the country are if something like this ever happened.
