If you’re planning a trip to Dallas, there’s a new art project you won’t want to miss! The Deep Ellum Foundation has launched The Musical Art Garden, a collection of murals dedicated to musicians who have played a role in the Deep Ellum music scene. Created by talented North Texas artists, these murals celebrate a variety of genres and legendary performers.
One of the artists featured in this project is Wichita Falls’ own Selina Mize. Known for her vibrant murals across Texas, she had the opportunity to paint a tribute to none other than Post Malone. Her work now stands alongside murals dedicated to Bowling for Soup’s Jaret Reddick, rapper BigXthaPlug, and pop icon Kelly Clarkson.
The Musical Art Garden: A Celebration of Texas Music
In December, the Deep Ellum Foundation announced The Musical Art Garden, a public art initiative showcasing musicians who have made an impact in Deep Ellum. The murals, created by local artists, bring new life to the area beneath the I-345 overpass.
This collection highlights a variety of artists from different musical backgrounds, ensuring that fans of all genres will find a piece they connect with. From rock and punk to hip-hop and country, the murals reflect Deep Ellum’s rich musical history.
Selina Mize’s Tribute to Post Malone
Selina Mize, an accomplished muralist from Wichita Falls, was honored to be a part of this exciting project. While she originally completed her mural in December, she recently shared images of her work online, expressing how much fun she had painting it.
Her mural of Post Malone captures the rapper’s unique energy and style, making it a must-see for fans of the Texas-born superstar. Mize’s artistic talent has gained recognition across the state, and her contribution to The Musical Art Garden further cements her reputation as a top-tier muralist.
Why Place Murals Under an Overpass?
The decision to place The Musical Art Garden under the I-345 overpass wasn’t random. According to Deep Ellum Foundation Executive Director Stephanie Keller Hudiburg, the goal was to transform an overlooked space into something beautiful.
“There’s nobody with a better knack for taking something that might be viewed by others as not worthy, or trash, or something that’s not beautiful, to say no I have a different vision; and to be able to take it and turn it into something incredible,” Hudiburg said.
The project has turned a dull, concrete area into a vibrant tribute to Texas music, giving both locals and tourists a unique outdoor gallery to explore.
