For over a week, the town of Diboll, Texas, has been united in a heartfelt mission to rescue a white duck. The entire community is working together, trying to capture the duck that has become a symbol of unity and compassion for the town.
The Struggle to Save the Duck
The white duck, referred to simply as “she” by the residents, has been spotted limping around the town. The duck has a fishing line wrapped around her left foot, which is believed to have come from a fishing lure that may have been stuck in a nearby pond.
According to Diboll’s city manager, Jason Arnold, although the duck’s injury doesn’t seem to cause her significant pain, it does result in mild discomfort. Arnold explains that while she’s able to swim awkwardly and walk with a limp, the duck is still able to fly away when she needs to. However, this injury is making it harder for the community to catch her and provide the care she needs.
Arnold notes that despite her discomfort, the duck’s ability to escape quickly and her fear of people has made the rescue mission more difficult. “She walks with a limp, she swims awkwardly, but she can get away pretty quickly and she flies perfectly,” Arnold said. The community is trying to ensure the duck’s health is not compromised by the fishing line, but it’s taking longer than expected to capture her.
A Town United in Compassion
Diboll, a small town known for its caring and nurturing community, has come together to make the rescue of this duck a priority. Volunteers and city officials have gathered near Old Orchard Pond, where the duck has been spotted multiple times, working tirelessly to remove the fishing line from her foot.
Jason Arnold has expressed that the situation is a top priority for the city. The people of Diboll are committed to not only helping this particular duck but also to caring for all wildlife in the area’s parks. The community’s collective effort is a reminder of the kindness and responsibility people feel toward the animals they share their town with.
A Lesson in Caring for Our Parks and Wildlife
Arnold has used the opportunity to encourage the town’s residents to be mindful of how they treat the local parks. He emphasized the importance of cleaning up after themselves and leaving parks in the same condition as they found them. By doing so, it ensures that wildlife in the area can thrive without harm or unnecessary distress.
“The capture and line removal are a high priority for the city, and we’re doing everything we can to help care for all the ducks and wildlife at our Diboll area parks,” Arnold said.
This story of community spirit and compassion is a touching reminder that even the smallest acts of kindness, like helping a duck in need, can bring people together and create a sense of unity.
