It has been nearly eight months since Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested and sent to New York’s Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) on serious charges including sex trafficking and racketeering.
Once a billionaire music mogul, entrepreneur, and founder of Bad Boy Records, Diddy’s new reality is a stark contrast to his luxurious past.
Now awaiting trial, the rap icon’s daily life is spent in a Brooklyn jail unit, surrounded not by fame, but by strict rules, grey uniforms, and a rotating menu of simple meals.
Life Inside the Jail: A Routine Far From Fame
Diddy, once known for his high-end fashion and lavish lifestyle, now lives in a communal, dorm-style unit called 4 North. Around 20 men are housed in this fourth-floor unit, which is considered less harsh than solitary confinement.
He shares the floor with high-profile inmates, including former crypto boss Sam Bankman-Fried (until recently) and other segregated informants and inmates with safety concerns.
Since hair dye is not allowed, his beard and hair have gone visibly grey. Daily life now begins at 7 a.m., with meals in a shared area and the option to exercise or relax with limited activities like ping-pong, yoga mats, or TV.
Limited Privileges and Strict Rules
Diddy is allowed to have visitors on Tuesdays and can make phone calls limited to 15 minutes—which are also monitored by authorities. A recent call with rapper Ye (Kanye West) made headlines.
Unlike his previous private-chef meals, Diddy now eats basic jail food, with vegetarian lasagna or pasta on special Fridays. The commissary offers snacks like Snickers bars, Cheez-Its, and essential items like toiletries, radios, and watches.
Inmates can spend up to $180 every two weeks, with items like $1 mackerel packets (“macks”) used as a form of jail currency.
Bail Denied, Trial Approaching
Diddy’s legal team has tried three times to secure bail, but each attempt was denied. He continues to plead not guilty to charges including kidnapping, arson, drug crimes, and organizing a violent criminal conspiracy related to alleged sexual abuse of multiple individuals.
His trial is set to begin on May 5, with opening statements expected to detail the serious accusations he faces. If convicted, Diddy could spend the rest of his life in prison.
