Ed Sheeran, known for his global pop hits, is now seriously thinking about making a full switch to country music. While he has explored the genre before, he recently shared that becoming a full-time country singer is now his “end goal.”
He opened up about this in a new episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, giving fans a clear idea of where he sees his music career heading in the future.
Ed Sheeran Loves Nashville
In the podcast, Ed revealed how much he loves Nashville, calling it his favorite city in the U.S. He told host Alex Cooper, “My end goal would be like, I’m gonna move to Nashville and transition to country.”
He has visited the city many times and even performed at Tootsie’s, a famous live music spot in downtown Nashville. Nashville is also known as the heart of country music, so it’s no surprise Ed wants to make it his home if he takes on this genre seriously.
Ed Has Already Worked with Country Stars
Ed isn’t new to country music. He has already collaborated with big names like Luke Combs and Chris Stapleton. These performances showed fans that his voice and style blend well with country music.
But he’s clear that if he does switch, it won’t be for just one song or album. He wants to do it the right way.
Why He Hasn’t Fully Made the Move Yet
Even though he’s excited, Ed says he’s holding back for now because he wants to show full respect for the genre.
He explained, “I feel like I have to do it properly. And I feel like once you transition to country, you can’t transition back. Once you’re there, you’re there.”
Ed believes that country music is not a style you can just try once and leave. He wants to commit completely if he decides to go for it.
How His Country Music Might Sound
Ed Sheeran was born in Suffolk, England, and has Anglo-Irish roots. He says he grew up with traditional Irish music in his home, so if he does a country album, it might sound a little different from American country songs.
“I would have to bring Irish trad music into country, because it’s all kind of the same instruments anyway,” he said.
This could mean a fresh mix of Irish and country music, something fans might really enjoy.
Other Artists Have Tried Country Music Too
Many global artists have tried their hands at country music recently. Beyoncé and Chappell Roan released country-inspired music but made it clear they don’t plan to stay in the genre.
On the other hand, Post Malone has released country music and seems open to doing more. And then there’s Darius Rucker, who made the move to country music in 2008 and never looked back.
So if Ed Sheeran does go all-in, he would be joining a long list of big names who have tried or embraced country music in their careers.
